An object study
Imagine an object that can let you escape. Something you can hold in your hands that can remove you from your current place and time to transport you far away. If you close your eyes, can you see it?
I could hold a million different versions and still not know all this object has to convey. I can choose one large enough that my fingers will not touch between both my hands, while others are small enough to carry in the palm of one. It bears a dreamy smell that brings me back to school days and weekend adventures. While the exterior is bright and shallow, the inside is white and my point of departure.
Hidden inside each is a new world filled with foreign possibilities. Suddenly I am in ancient Greece, running through fields of flowers with the lesser Gods. It's 1820, and I am cooking in a crowded tenement in New York City, shivering from the cold as I wait for my eight-year-old to return from his factory job. I watch as an astroid passes the window of my spaceship on my way to a new planet, one they say is hospitable to humans. But just as quickly as I departed, I return to my chair, with a book in hand and a new adventure under my belt.
